Our April Featured Artist is Devin Huffman. She has a beautiful series of works featuring Alaskan fireweed. Little Owl will provide some gluten-free snacks and sweets!
A little about the artist:
Devin Huffman is a lifelong Alaskan. She has had the privilege living in Homer, Anvik and Fairbanks. She has the opportunity and joy to travel all over the world with her husband and three children. Painting has been part of her life since she was a small child learning from her Grandmother. The beauty of Alaska and her surroundings heavy influence the subjects of her painting. The art she creates is based on color and texture. Devin finds peace when she paints. She has the perspective that art is personal and people are not perfect so it should not be. She has the ability to find joy and peace in the journey and creating rather than the final outcome. Devin's art is influenced and shaped by her love of impressionism. Most of her paintings are acrylic or oil done on canvas or wood.
Join Dr. Janice Onorato and Moreen Fried, LCSW for this film documenting the good works of the Himalayan HealthCare Organization. This is a free event to raise awareness.
There will also be a fundraiser Saturday, November 5th. The event will be at Raven's Landing from 5:30pm-9:00pm. Co-founder of Himalayan HealthCare, Nail Parajuli, will be in attendance and you will hear stories from volunteers/trekkers. There will be music, dinner, a silent auction, and a cash bar. All proceeds go to Himalayan HealthCare.
Our July Community Spotlight is focused on Companions, Inc. This is a great community organization offering "pet therapy" at Denali Center, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, and various other locations around Fairbanks.
A few Companions and their handlers will stop by Take 5 from 5-7pm to meet the public and tell us all about their good works. Snacks will be provided for humans and furry friends (on the patio), and the cafe will be open for normal coffee service.
